I Do
Deep Tissue
I have two settings:
Custom and Deep Therapy.
To know which one you might prefer, consider the following two statements:
#1 “I just have one or two specific issues or areas that need special attention.
But I still want to relax and receive massage all over.”
Sound like you? My Custom Massage is probably what you would like.
sure, massage away.”
Why So Deep?
Two reasons, mainly. First, I’m a big guy with strong hands. Even when I am not doing deep tissue; I am still doing deep tissue.
Second, I approach massage with a structural engineering attitude.
Huh? I think about how your muscles are moving in relationship to each other, and the group they belong within. I incorporate knowledge of Structural Dynamics and Anatomy Trains to understand how your body is responding to dysfunction.
During traditional deep tissue massage there is a lot of starting and stopping due to trigger point work and stretching of the muscle fiber and fascia. My massage has evolved into a warm flow that incorporates a Rhythmic Strumming technique.
This technique communicates to me what tools, at what intensity are going to restore the tissues of the area to their best possible natural working state?
My Session Approach...
After we have had a chance to discuss the goals for your session, my modus operandi is to close my eyes, and using Rhythmic Strumming; seek and destroy myofascial adhesions and buildups.
I will locate and effect those areas that are causing the problem(s). I work with related tissues and muscle groups to ensure a full solution is provided. Because, so often where the pain is – is not where the problem is. Medial rotation of the shoulders can cause so much trapezius tension it triggers a migraine. None of those secret, little, who-knew points of tension or adhesion are going to escape my massage. You will be amazed how working one area, will cause so much relief throughout others.
And because of this approach…
I decide when your
session is complete.
...not the clock
Sessions last the full amount of scheduled time and often go over.
Please let me know if you have time constraints and need your session to end on time.
Rhythmic Strumming
One thing that differentiates my massage from almost every other massage out there, is that I perform Rhythmic Strumming. A technique I have been developing over my entire career wherein I use my hands & knuckles to strum your muscle fibers. I do this as a way to relax and warm the fibers of the surrounding tissues; also to establish an almost sonographic view in my mind’s eye of the entire muscle area. I can “see” dysfunction, tension and binding caused by myofascial adhesions using this strumming technique.
A side effect of this technique is that I generate a significant amount of heat in my hands. It is very common for clients to express how much relaxing energy and warmth they are feeling during my massage.
The problem with many of the traditional deep tissue techniques such as Trigger Point Therapy and Active Pin & Stretch is that they do not provide any communication back to the therapist. And they are only effective on isolated areas of tissue.
They often leave the therapist playing whack-a-mole searching for the root cause without knowledge of how everything is connected.
There is no dysfunction that exists by itself in a vacuum. Whatever is causing you pain or limited range of motion is doing so in a connected series of smaller dysfunctions stemming from a root cause. It is wrong to treat dysfunction without understanding the effect to the entire muscle, joint and area.
Rhythmic Strumming provides the way for your body to communicate to me, a more complex understanding of what is needed for your full physical restoration.
Get Longer Lasting Benefits
My massage is about making change. With change comes long lasting, if not permanent positive results. If your massage goals require a multi-session approach, you may be wondering what you can do to keep that amazing feeling going for as long as possible.
For starters: Drink that bottle of water! Hand me the empty. I’ll be happy to recycle it. Then, keep moving for a while. Go for a walk, or almost any movement based activity. Just be gentle with yourself.
Consider playing a round of Dance, Dance, Revolution! Or get out the karaoke and perform your rousing version of Y.M.C.A. Then have some more water.
